Woman Rescues Stolen Dog in Qormi After Suspicious Street Approach

· News

A concerning case of dog theft in Qormi has come to light after a woman stepped in to rescue a small dog being offered to her by a man believed to be a drug user.

The woman, who later contacted Innocent Paws Malta to report what happened, explained that she had been shopping in Qormi when she was suddenly approached by the man carrying the dog. He asked if she wanted to buy it.

Sensing something was wrong, she made a small offer in an attempt to remove the dog from the situation. Her initial €10 offer was refused, but when she raised it to €20, the man accepted immediately and ran off.

Once in her care, the dog was visibly shaken, trembling, and clearly distressed with every sign suggesting he did not recognise the man who had tried to sell him.

After securing the dog’s safety, the woman contacted the appropriate animal welfare representatives. It was soon confirmed that the dog had in fact been stolen from his home and was being sold to obtain drug money.

The dog has since been safely reunited with his rightful family, and the incident has been formally reported to the police.

This case highlights the need for continued public awareness, as pet theft and illegal pet sales remain a real concern. The woman’s quick intervention prevented further harm, and her actions ensured the dog made it back home.

Residents are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious behaviour involving animals.
